SSKS Information Literacy Pack

ellendaly | April 28, 2009

The SSKS information literacy pack has been developed by IRISS and NES to support social services staff make best use of the information and knowledge resources of SSKS. It’s designed to be used by trainers leading groups of staff through sessions on information literacy – perhaps combined with hands-on access to SSKS. It can also be used by individual staff members interested in enhancing their knowledge and skills in information literacy.

The pack is completely free to download and use. Its based on a seven step information literacy cycle developed by NES (2008) and adapted by IRISS.  The pack is in seven sections each one representing one step in the information literacy cycle: each step includes learning outcomes, examples, activities, trainers’ notes and PowerPoint slides.

The pack is available at: www.ssks.org.uk/infolit.aspx

ellendaly | April 8, 2009

On the 6th of February 2009, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and IRISS held a joint consultation event at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall to gather views and feedback on the Knowledge Management Strategy for the social services. If you want to know more, the draft summary of the strategy explains why knowledge management is important and what the strategy will deliver.  The consultation event was very interactive and included a ‘knowledge café’ session, based on the world café idea where groups have discussions, share knowledge and ideas and record their thoughts the tablecloths.

The IRISS Learning Technology staff were on hand to capture video, audio and photos of the day.

Keynote speech given by Alan Baird, President of the Association of Directors of Social Work.
