SSKS has had a mini makeover

ianwatson | August 27, 2009

Acting on your feedback, we have made a few changes to SSKS.

The search box is now more prominent, both in position and design. Just below the search box  are quick links to  journals and books; topic rooms; and the users and carers area.

Note also the  FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) where you will find lots of tips and advice about using SSKS.

Because you need an Athens password to see certain material we have put a little warning triangle beside ‘login / register’ (top right of the page)  to remind you to login – when you do login the triangle will disappear.

On the left of the home page there is information about the Information Literacy Training Pack which offers tips to help you search more effectively.

Finally, this blog occupies a prominent position so that you can see the latest news and, most importantly,  add your own comments.  So please share your thoughts, suggestions and  opinions.

Remember that a more thorough overall is planned for early next year (see earlier blog post) and you are welcome to be part of this by joining the user group.

Social Services Knowledge Scotland consultation

susanlindner | August 17, 2009

Fifty people from the social services sector attended a workshop on the future development of SSKS on 4th August at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow.   It was really useful to hear the views of such a varied cross section of interests.

The delegates considered how best to redesign SSKS to make it an easy to use, interactive and indispensable part of the social services world.  You can download the slide presentations which were given on the day:

Ian Watson, IRISS – Introduction to the day

Ann Wales, NHS Education for Scotland – Future development of SSKS

Annette Thain, NHS Education for Scotland – Community Builder Toolkit

If you are unable to download any of the presentations above, or would like a paper version, please contact susan.lindner@iriss.org.uk.

The views gathered during the day will play a part in the revision of the social services knowledge management strategy, ‘Sharing Knowledge, Improving Practice, Changing Lives’ and will ultimately guide the future development of SSKS.

We’ll be summarising the feedback here in this blog so sign up for the rss feed or email alerts.
