If you are new to Social Services Knowledge Scotland (SSKS), there are some slides hows and information available to help you explore the site and its functionality.

All social services workers and their managers who are employed in Scotland are eligible for a FREE Athens password.

You can fill in your Athens registration form online. Using this method, your Athens password and username will be sent to you within a couple of days. Access a slideshow guide to registration here. Alternatively, you can download and complete the details on the Athens registration form [pdf-288kB].

If you’d like to promote the Social Services Knowledge Scotland (SSKS) portal within your own organisation, there are a range of promotional materials available. Download the flyers here, or request hard copies.

The Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS) has developed the Evidence-informed Practice Portal and the Confidence Through Evidence Toolkit to support staff in finding and using evidence to inform their practice. The portal provides access to a range of key evidence sources, as well as accessible evidence summaries to save you time, and updates on new research, publications, news and events. The portal also includes the Confidence Through Evidence Toolkit, which provides guidance on the process of finding evidence and how staff can assess, adapt and apply it to practice.
