Research on social work services and recovery from substance misuse published

Michelle Drumm | March 23, 2011

The Scottish Government has published a report entitled, Social work services and recovery from substance misuse: a review of the evidence, which is accompanied by research findings.

This research, jointly funded by the Scottish Government, IRISS and ADSW, reviewed the available evidence on social work’s contribution to supporting recovery for those with problem drug and/or alcohol use. It also collated the available evidence on workforce development in this area, as well as reviewing what is known about social work roles and training. Alison Petch, Director at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (IRISS) was a member of the research advisory group on the project.

A Practitioners’ Briefing authored by Dr Sarah Galvani and Professor Donald Forrester, is available on the ADSW website.
