Scotland's National Dementia Strategy launched

Michelle Drumm | June 2, 2010

On Tuesday 1st June, the Public Health Minister, Shona Robison, officially launched Scotland’s National Dementia Strategy, which sets out the Scottish Government’s key actions to transform dementia care and treatment in Scotland.

It identifies five key challenges and addresses these by focussing on two key service delivery areas: improving support after diagnosis and improving hospital care. It also sets out a further eight specific actions which will support improvements in care and treatment.

The work to deliver the strategy will be overseen by a Dementia Strategy Implementation and Monitoring Group involving all the key partners responsible for taking forward the changes, as well as people with dementia and the people who care for them. The group will publish an annual report in June 2011 and 2012. The strategy has long-term objectives, but there will be an immediate focus on action over the next three years.

The report is available for download on the Scottish Government website.
