Evaluation is a key mechanism for assessing performance and identifying areas for improvement. Current financial constraints increase the likelihood of evaluations being undertaken in-house, but there can sometimes be little support to ensure these evaluations are successful and produce valuable results. This project, which we are undertaking in partnership with Evaluation Support Scotland, will create and support a small network of self-evaluators across social services in Scotland. By facilitating peer support through this network and providing training, we aim to improve skills and confidence around evaluation for project participants which will in turn lead to increased capacity for evaluation within their organisations. We will also develop a better understanding about the value of using peer support in the field of self-evaluation.
The outcomes of the project are:
- Members of the peer support group have improved evaluation skills and confidence
- The benefits of self-evaluation are understood by project participants and communicated to others
- The role peer support can play in supporting self-evaluation is better understood and this knowledge is captured and shared
