performance unfolded<br>\u2018You bitch, you cow, you think you\u2019re all that\u2019<br>My resolve of composure dissolving like salt in warm water<br>15 hours into my shift<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">She saw it in my eyes, returned with a look of confusion<br>This is Gill, My GG, she doesn\u2019t flap, she\u2019s ok, isn\u2019t she?<br>I\u2019m not sure now, this isn\u2019t right<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The onslaught continued loud in the still house<br>\u2018You toddle off to bed now you bitch, night, night\u2019<br>Ham flew into the air from a midnight snack<br>Sticking to the ceiling like a plaster on a wound<br>A sudden relief in the tension we all laughed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">She saw her chance and grabbed it<br>Checking my pooled eyes threatening to spill out<br>Like an overflowing basin<br>\u2018I\u2019ve had enough, I\u2019m going to bed\u2019 she mumbled<br>All three of us retreated to bed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I remember sitting on the corner of my bed<br>The knock came<br>I removed clenched fists from my eye sockets bringing<br>Myself back into the moment<br>I opened the door<br>\u2018Night GG\u2019 she said and held her arms out for a hug<br>15 hours down, 9 \u00bd to go<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button aligncenter is-style-squared w-100\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.iriss.org.uk\/viewfromhere\/poems\/\">Explore all poems<br><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Gillian Gourley I remember sitting on the corner of my bedTears halted, breath heldI knew her well, she would knock The insults had flown thick and fast in the darkI\u2019d stood sentry as the two girls&#8217;
