Dementia Advisor, Alzheimer Scotland
I am Iain Houston, I work at Alzheimer Scotland as a Dementia Advisor covering Renfrewshire. The primary aspect of my role is to provide information and advice to people with dementia, their families and carers and help them to access sources of support that may be helpful to them. Recently I have been working very closely with a gentleman with dementia putting together a life story book, this has been a fantastic experience and I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to work with him and find out more about his life. After completing this I became interested in writing this up as a case study, after compiling a literature review I noticed that there is a gap in research regarding people with dementia and life story work. Predominantly current research focusses on how life story work may assist health and social care professionals deliver person centred care when supporting people with dementia, this is extremely important, however there is a limited amount of research focussing on how completing life story work affects the person with dementia, this is what I am going to focus on.
